This unit holds face-to-face interviews with disabled students and their families to get information about the students’ disabilities and their needs at the beginning of every academic year to make their lives more comfortable on the campus. The main aims of the unit are to identify the administrative, physical, and accommodative needs of the disabled students, to plan the course of action, to meet the identified needs and put them into action, to evaluate the results of these actions, and to make amendments to the current functioning. In accordance with the aforementioned purposes, by taking the number and the levels of the students’ disabilities into account, the unit works to provide equal academic, physical, social, and psychological life standards like those of students without disabilities by arranging awareness activities and practices toward a “barrier-free campus for the disabled”.
Besides engelsiz.cankaya.edu.tr website that has been set up to facilitate a better campus experience and academic life, Çankaya Disabilities-Free Student Club that functions under the Management of Cultural and Social Affairs Branch of Çankaya University has some ongoing social responsibility projects such as building up an audio library and collecting blue bottle caps.
